Trick-or-Treat! Halloween Safety Tips

October is here and it’s time for everyone’s favorite fall holiday, Halloween! When you and your family go out trick-or-treating this year we want you to remember these tips to help ensure a fun and safe time for all.

Preparing for Your Big Night Out!

  • Make sure your costumes are ready to go. Check that costumes fit properly and everyone is wearing comfy shoes. If anyone is going to wear a mask you should check that the eye, nose and mouth holes are large enough for proper visibility and air flow. It is also a good idea to use reflective tape or even a bike light on darker costumes so that cars will be able to see you on those spooky streets.
  • Map out your route ahead of time. You can use this time to make sure everyone knows where you plan on going and is on the same page. It is also a good idea to make sure several people in the group are carrying cell phones just in case.
  • Check out candy before you start eating. Go through all candy collected to check for any unwrapped pieces and throw them away. Anything that has a torn or faded wrapper should be tossed out as well. This is definitely one instance where it’s better to be safe than sorry. So if you don’t like the way the candy looks then get rid of it.
