Dreams of driving past lush landscapes and breathtaking views have you convinced a new motorcycle is right for you. Well, now that you have finally made the decision it is important to select the right bike for you. Here are some tips to help you get started in finding the best motorcycle for your cruising needs.

According to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, there are three different types of motorcycles. They are street bikes, dual-purpose bikes and off-road bikes. But these are not the only types of motorcycles available. Let’s take a look at all of your options.

  • Street: Designed for paved roads and offer a variety of body styles
  • Touring: Designed with practical accessories and equipped with bigger gas tanks
  • Cruiser: Associated with custom designed bikes and high-profile brands
  • Sport: Capable of reaching high speeds and rank high in ease of handling and breaking
  • Standard: Generally equipped with just the basics and perfect for the novice rider
  • Scooters: Equipped with smaller engines and not recommended for highway use
  • Dual-purpose: Can be used both on and off road
  • Off-road: For those who are more adventurous and cannot be used on traditional roadways

When selecting your new motorcycle, take some time learning about your different options and seeing what is available. Knowing what purpose you want the bike to serve will give you a better understanding of the type of motorcycle is best for you.

  • Extra-long driving time behind the wheel.

Little Things You Can Do for Earth Day

Friday, April 18th, 2014

Earth Day is April 22nd, and every year since 1970, it seems to be gaining a bit more attention.  That is a good thing. Earth Day doesn’t mean you have install tens of thousands worth of solar panels on your roof, or abandon your car, but there are some small changes you can make that can help in going green.

  • New LED interior lighting is available that really minimizes use of electricity. If you upgrade your lighting, consider a move to LED.
  • Pay attention to your use of water.
  • As summer approaches, set your thermostat a little bit higher for your air conditioning.
  • Walk or bicycle more. Short trips to the store on foot or on a bike are a great way to minimize your carbon footprint and get some exercise.
  • Use biodegradable soaps and detergents.
  • Recycle as much as you can.
  • Look into natural pesticides for your garden.

There are many environmentally friendly choices you can make. Earth Day is a good day to start implementing them.

Liability Umbrellas are Protection for that Rainy Day

Friday, April 4th, 2014

When you carry homeowners and auto insurance, one of the coverage options afforded to you is liability insurance. This is designed to offer protection for you in the event that someone is injured or suffers a loss on your property or in an auto accident you are found at fault for. If someone suffers a loss beyond the limits of your homeowners insurance coverage, you may find yourself facing a costly court battle. Liability umbrella policies are a great investment to protect against this.

Liability umbrellas extend coverage for injuries that other people suffer from accidents, falls and even dog bites. It covers their medical costs, lost work time and other associated costs. You can also get coverage for property damage, which is beneficial if someone suffers a loss such as vehicle or fence damage, and even damages caused by your kids.

Rental properties are high-risk as well. As a landlord, you can get coverage for injuries, tenant negligence and other hazards that can occur with a rental. Liability umbrella insurance is a valuable investment if you are ever sued for libel, false arrest, slander and even mental anguish.

Uncovering the Mystery Behind Life Insurance Premiums

Monday, March 31st, 2014

When it comes to ensuring that your family is provided for in the event of your death, life insurance is one of the best investments that you can make. Before you purchase a life insurance policy, it is important that you know what lifestyle choices and factors can make your premiums more expensive.

Since being overweight can increase your risk of death, your weight is a factor in the premium pricing. If your weight is above average for your body structure, you may find that your insurance company includes a surcharge or rates your policy as higher risk.

Tobacco use is another significant risk factor. If you are a smoker or you use smokeless tobacco, your insurance company will place you in a higher risk pool for your life insurance. Most insurance companies test for tobacco use, so honesty is important here.

A negative driving record shows a history of poor or risky decisions, which puts you at a greater risk as well. High-risk hobbies like mountain climbing or white water rafting can place you in a risky rate plan, too. Finally, your medical history is essential. A history of mental illness, cancer, cardiovascular disease or other serious health conditions can also lead to a policy in a higher rating class.

Protect Your Personal Information During Tax Time

Monday, March 24th, 2014

You have less than two months left to file taxes. Its crunch time for many people as they scramble to get all their tax documents and receipts ready for their tax preparer or to file taxes themselves. Yet with all the hustle and bustle, people can forget to protect their personal information from identity thieves.

Identity thieves love tax season. They can get all the personal information they need from a victim from mailed tax documents and other forms. They use this information to obtain loans, credit cards or even file taxes as they obtain the tax refund. You may not even find out about your information being stolen until your tax return is rejected because someone else already filed a return in your name.

Protect your personal information by using the following tips:

Place all tax documents in a safe location. Don’t leave them out on a counter or desk if people are visiting your home. Put them in a locked drawer or in a safe.

Contact your employer about missing tax documents. Employers had until January 30th to mail out all W2s and other tax documents. If you haven’t received anything by now, let your employer know so they can get the papers sent to you and to the IRS. If they stall, contact the IRS directly about the problem as the IRS will get in touch with the employer.

If you experience any problems filing your taxes, it may be a red flag that someone has stolen your information. Let the IRS know, in writing, of the issues as they can help you with this problem.
